Great Lakes Academy is a K - 8th grade public charter school located in Pontiac. The academy has been serving the community for more than 20 years. Job Summary
The Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student affairs and promoting a positive, supportive, and inclusive campus environment that enhances student success, engagement, and well-being. This leadership role works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to develop programs, policies, and services that support the academic, personal, and social development of students. The Dean of Students serves as an advocate for students while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and strategic direction for student affairs initiatives, programs, and services.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered campus culture that supports diversity, equity, and belonging.
Oversee student conduct processes and ensure fair, consistent application of institutional policies.
Collaborate with academic leadership to support student retention, engagement, and overall success.
Develop and implement programs that promote student wellness, leadership development, and campus involvement.
Serve as a resource and advocate for students by addressing concerns, conflicts, and student-related issues.
Partner with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to strengthen the student experience and campus community.
Lead crisis response and student support efforts when necessary.
Assess and improve student services through data analysis, feedback, and strategic planning.
Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations related to student affairs.
Cognitive Demands:

Be able to think logically and abstractly to solve problems
Provide outstanding written and oral communication
Physical Demands:
Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds
Stand and walk frequently
Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
Withstand a moderate noise level
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in education, higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education administration or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in student services, program development, and academic or institutional leadership.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead organizational change and manage initiatives within a dynamic academic environment.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.
Knowledge of student development theory, higher education policies, and best practices in student affairs.
Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment in sensitive situations.
